I am restoring a 1935 Master with knee action. Have tried, without benefit of the special Kent-Moore tool, to remove the caps on top of the knee action units, but have not been successful. Can you advise me:
1. whether the special Kent-Moore tool is available on loan or for purchase?
2. whether there are professionals who can restore these units?
Thanks,
Jay in Albuquerque

Jay,
The professional rebuilders are NOT inexpensive! If I remember correctly the process with tips on how to get them apart and back together has been discussed in some detail on ChatII. If you search (use advanced search and look at the tips) you should find more that should help you. Seem to remember there was an article in the G&D a bunch of years back.

Jay, look at the tool I made in the photos at left. A piece of square tubing with a piece of 3/8 square rod welded to it. The rod is the width of the plug. If you catch both the plug and the cap it will turn the cap. If you catch just the plug, it will turn only the plug.

Did you get the knee apart?

I assume you are doing this on a work bench and not with the weight of the car on the knee...
