Thank you for the help. Sorry for the title & typo. A phone keyboard really isn't good to use for typing!

Is there a good way to 'bench test' these things? Alligator clip to the yellow power lead & a ground to the case? I don't want to disconnect the original fuse holder from the car's wiring harness as its still in good shape and the wiring looks good...but it keeps blowing fuses when I try to turn it on.
I've removed the radio from the car, and inspected everything. My father had recently had the unit repaired and was supposedly in good working order, but I can't get it to power on without popping the fuse. Now that I know its a 14 amp, I will make sure I have the correct one in there. I had been trying 10A and 20A before.
The car's dash lights don't work as well, so I'm wondering if its something related to the headlight switch / wiring rather than the radio. But...I'd like to isolate that and see if the radio works by itself before going farther. Does this make sense? Thanks again for the advice.

What color shirt am I wearing? Point is, I can't diagnose your radio unless I have it on my bench. One possible cause is the rubber sleeve on the fuse holder is missing. Another cause could be a shorted vibrator. Just grabbing for straws. It needs to be on a bench.
