While in Victoria and hanging around the judging field watching a certain 32 coupe being judged (Don's) The question of round or oval fender washers was brought up. I had to leave before a conclusion was decided. I am interested as my 32 has oval fender washers . What is correct or were both used. Thanks Guys.

I can't vouch for 1932. I have a 1929 that was not touched (rare find) and it has round fender washers. Mine was built in the Oshawa Ontario plant and other plants may have used round or oval.

I've had two original 1931 Chevs (one made on the East Coast and one on the West Coast) and they both had round washers.

Tell ya what? I'll start a POLL on this question. See the next topic posted.

More food for thought: I have a totally all original, unrestored and untouched by human hands 1932 Chevrolet Special Sedan (I purhcased it from the original owner 30 years ago) and all of the fender washers on the rear fenders are round! Also, I have in my literature collection a fastener chart for 1932 and it has an illustrated picture of the fender washer, and it also is round. So......does that help out anyone??    laugh laugh laugh

Of all the '31-32 Chevys that I have seen none had oval washers. Why would they be used? There is no interference and they would be more expensive to produce! (dies would cost more to make and repair.)

OK CHIPPER AND JUNKYARD DOG AND ALL THE REST OF US. I CALLED GOOD OLD RALPH MCEOWEN IN OHIO AND ASKED HIM THAT VERY SAME QUESTION ABOUT ROUND OR OVAL FENDER WASHERS, AS I WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE JUDGES THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE OVAL WASHERS. WELL, RALPH SAID THAT EVERY CHEVY HE EVER SEEN HAD ROUND WASHERS AND THAT WHEN EXPERI-METAL WAS IN BUSINESS BUILDING REPRODUCTION 32 CHEVYS, THAT THEY MADE OVAL WASHERS FOR THOSE CARS. I THINK MAYBE SOMEONE SEEN THEM IN THEIR CATALOG AND FIGURED OVAL WASHERS WERE USED ON ALL CARS. THATS PROBABLY HOW OVAL WASHERS CAME UP. chevy chevy dance

Like Chipper said.....what is the purpose of using oval washers on the rear fenders anyway? It serves no purpose to do so. And, original documentation at this point dictates round washers. So, did the judge deduct points from your judging sheet for the round washers?    :( :(

SKIPPER, NO POINTS WERE DEDUCTED FOR THE FENDER WASHERS, I THINK THE JUDGE WAS NOT POSITIVELY SURE ABOUT WHAT WASHER WAS CORRECT. THANK GOD I DID NOT HAVE GOLD PLATED FENDER WASHERS. I BET GOOD OLD MR MACK WOULD LIKE TO HAVE HIS WASHERS GOLD PLATED. IN THAT TAXAS SUN, HIS CHEVY WOULD REALLY STAND OUT AT A BUZZARD CAR MEET??????????THEY MIGHT EVEN DO SOME BEERBECUING ON HIS HOOD. devil devil yipp yipp

You probably should have had gold plated fender washers and then the judges would have added points to your score.......especially if you had a case of "Budwipper" sitting there by the car. Oh well.....too late now! ha ha!  laugh laugh laugh laugh

I have an older catalog from Bow Tie restorations in Ohio [The fender people] that lists an oval washer for rear fenders . I thought it was for there fenders but round ones worked fine when I put them on my car. auto

Hey, better late than never. My 1931 built in Oakland, California had round also. Are we sure some factory did not just have a bad punch die that spit out some oval ones?
