a 1952 does not use the front plate for a mount. It has boses on the side of block for mounting brackets. 1951 won't fit mounts for 1952.

Well it can fit but you will have to drill the mount plate under the timing gear cover so as to adapt to the earlier engine mounts.

You can bolt in a 52 up thru a 55 passanger block in your car. the powerglide 53 engines and later years will be inserted rod models with a high pressure oil system, you will need a 0-60 PSI oil pressure gauge. Just look for the bosses for the side mounts and the drilled and tapped holes for the side mounts. I have a replacement block in my 53 that was cast in 1956. It has both the side mounts and the front mounting plate that was used in the light trucks, and mechanical lifters. I know it is a replacement block because the machined engine number area is not stamped with a number.

To put a '51 engine in a '52 it will be necessary to drill the cross member for the two bolts on the mount plate and either drill the '52 mount plate to add the two mount bolts or mount the '51 front plate on the '52 block.

It would also be necessary to install the (rear) side motor mounts as used in the 1949-1951 models. These mounts stablize the engine so it dosen't turn over under torque

Do not need the 0 to 60 oil pressure gauge, the present gauge will work fine, will max out when oil pressure is high. Works fine in my 51 with a 55 235.

You are right Bob...Unless you want to know what your oil pressure is, maybe that is why Chevrolet put an oil pressure gauge on the cars in the first place? the oil pressure on the 53 runs consistantly above 30 PSI even warmed up.

You are beginning to hit on the reason for the elimination of the pressure gauge and the introduction to the OIL IDIOT LIGHT.

Just clarifying 235 will work with the 216 gauge, it is not REQUIRED to change 216 gauge to make 235 work properly.

I've got a 54 235 in my 51 Coupe. I put an aftermarket oil press gauge under the dash so I could keep an eye on it. My 235 before rebuild averaged 45 psi.

I am getting close to installing a 62 235 into a 51 hardtop. It is a standard and should have had a 216 . The engine was changed to a 235. It was bad so I removed it. The engine # showed it to be also a 51 engine. It had two bolts at the trans. mount to the crossmember. If I understand right, I should be using bellhousing mounting bolt holes for the rear mounts and not the transmission. The front is no problem. Is that correct ? If so is there provisions (boltholes) to bolt the rear mounts to the 51 body and not use the trans. mount? This chevy deserves better care than it has had. Thanks.

If you using the front mount under the timing cover, you will want to use the stabilizer mounts on either side of the bell housing plus the tranny mount.

you also MUST use a transmission mount. That is what carries the weight of the rear of the engine and the transmission.

I agree. The side mounts are also important because they keep the engine from rocking side to side under acceleration.
