![[Linked Image from pic50.picturetrail.com]](http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL401/9967837/17988031/399744062.jpg) OK, front door. Do you fasten the rubber to the black retainer and only glue the top and bottom or what?????? Need advice from you experienced people!!! Yes, that is on the couch in the living room. Wife passed years ago. Chef, since you only had the front door to deal with, how did you decide exactly where to position the front piece of rubber, start/stop.? Did you staple the rubber to the trim as originally? You don't glue it where it passes over the hinges, right?

ruscar, the pic on your other post of the back door the weatherstrip seems too large or the wrong type"shape"is the strip for the front the same? The weatherstrip on my doors look nothing like the pic.The strip is glued to the door in back of the hinges on the skin. There was no screws or staples used in the insalation.Your strip should run all the way around next to the 45 deg.edge where door skin meets the body of the door. From the pic on this post you will see how easily it will run in back of the hinges. Its been a long time since I instaled it but I have no leaks

Your picture of the retainer looks very similar to my convertible door retainer. Steele provided a molded piece of rubber for this position that no matter which way Cousin Dave and I turned it, we could not figure out how to position it to fit and it certainly didn't follow the contour of the metal retainer. Thought maybe I got an incorrect piece so tried to order another, but it's no longer being made. Bought some generic weatherstrip but haven't tried installing it yet.

Dale, it does not seem that their would be that much difference in this location of the different body styles? It did take a little studying to decide which way it should go. Seems to be right. ![[Linked Image from pic50.picturetrail.com]](http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL401/9967837/17988031/399746847.jpg) My original retainer strips were completely gone. I was able to get a pair from the big junkyard out west. Was really surprised that all but the very bottom screw lined up perfect.

Hi guys,
I tackled this 'fun' project last summer with the doors on my car (48 Fleetline) and I did encounter a few problems. Doing this project with the doors off is the best way to do this. I did write up a rather lengthy summary on this and posted it here in the forum. I chose not to try and staple my weatherstrip to the retainer as the originals were, and and only drilled out the holes through the weatherstrip and used weatherstripping glue along the edge of the retainer to hold the two pieces together. Ruscar, your door looks to be correct.

I agree , looks like Russell's doing a real professional job along with showing us it's best to remove the doors...which is scaring me a little...Are you using Steele Rubber ? Kevin

If are asking me if I used Steele rubber for my doors, yes I did. I found them to be a very good copy of the old door weather seals. Pricey though at about $250.00 for the pair if I recollect.

As I follow this thread I see my dramatic mistake with this installation on my 48..I followed the instructions given in the Fisher Body Manual and there is no mention of the confiruration change on the hinge pillar.Boy did I mess up"15" years ago..I guess another "redo on the list"Thanks for the bad news guys..Being correct is the goal for many of us.. If you have the body manual take a gander

No Kevin...My weather strip presently runs all the way around the inside of the door skin and under the the hinge(the outer most part of the door).Nothing like the pic in this thread. The shop manual shows the correct installation.Ignor any info I have given for this aplication, ruscar's info is spot on with the strip location around the hinges, mine is wrong and I need to find the retainer piece to re-do it..Whoops
