Hi guys,

Last summer, I was chatting with a guy at a cruise-in who told me that for years (decades) he has been putting a pint of 2 stroke oil in his gas tank to keep the crud from collecting in his 235 C.I. engine ('39 Chev.) He even suggested that I should pour some of the 2 stroke oil down the carb on my car when it's warmed up and at a high rev to help facilitate the cleaning of the engine. He said he has been doing this for many, many years on his 235 without any issues, and in fact, runs much better. Any truth to this?

Thanks.

Don't know about the 2-cycle oil, but back a few moons ago we would provide our engines with a cleansing dose of Shalers (?) Rislone (?) down the carb and the remainder in the fuel tank. Always upset the neighbors with the humologous cloud of smoke.

No Harm done...but to think it might act as some type of "detergent" that will cleanse your motor is just plain silly...

Why would pouring oil or Rislone or ?? in the gas tank or carburetor be a good idea or even necessary? I'm not grasping the concept here...

I add 2 cycle oil to the gas (tank) for winter storage. My thoughts are is leaves an oily film in areas where the gas evaporates and could prevent rust. Also keeps the fuel pump diaphragm from drying out. Ay one time I used MMO for this but came to the conclusion that it is not oily enough. This also can help to lubricatew the valve stems and cylinder walls.

I also have poured MMO through the carburetor air intake with the engine running. MMO contains solvent that could help keep the rings free as well as the ends of the valve stems that get carboned up.

Is this necessary? May be not with todays better oils and cleaner lead frre gas but it makes me feel good.

ATF also works good as a top engine cleaner. Down the carb same as the other treatments.

I actually think about it in springtime...with the other tune-up stuff...and again about "now" , when I'll be thinking about winterizing ( even here in California ) A little Stabl & MMO in the tank ( That's right ! I 'll throw in my leftover chainsaw fuel , too ) Probably at a overall ratio of about 1000:1
And of course I keep anything oily away from my vehicles with Cad-Converters ....

Thanks guys. Good information. I'll try MMO for the carb and pour a little 2 stroke oil in the gas tank for the winter. Always great information and help here.

Thanks again for the replies/help.
