From time to time we all have those times when the restoration is going bad, you break or loose a part that has taken months to get or cant be replaced, or the new engine starts for the first time, and fails.

You walk out of the shed, disowning the pile of junk you have turned your back on, you may return the next day, you may have a few days or weeks to get over it, or sadly the fire may go out never to return, and your once pride and joy becomes a negleted heap of parts or is sold off as a bad experience.

Well not this guy. Grant has taken on job after job, some way beyond his level of expertise at the time, but always comes out the other side with that ear to ear grin and the satisfaction knowing that another step in the process has been completed.

If your ever lacking motivation read his latest posting
http://montythe1928chevrolet.blogspot.com/2011/11/why-restoration-well-this-is-why.html

A lot of us could take a leaf out of his book, especially a few in OZ.

I am not a deeply religous person, but if ever there was a project being done with a guiding hand from above watching, encouraging and prodding, then I think it is in Gippsland.

I am proud to know Grant and be part of the Monty project, and as such have no hesitation in doing the 130 mile round trip to help.

From day one of the restoration Grant and Monty have enjoyed a lot more support from the USA side of this site than down under, why I dont know.

Well done Monty and Grant, may you go on from stength to strength. And when you pass me on the first outing of the completed Monty, make sure you honk the horn loud and clear. I may have something in my eye and be brushing it away at the time.

Finally, and this is a perfect opportunity for me to respond to the few of you that believe Grant and Ray's antics are an embarrashment to other OZ Chev owners.

UP YOURS FOR THE RENT

May you enjoy transporting your trailer queens to your rallies, and drive with your stubby exhausts so loud that you cant talk to each other. You will know who I mean. Men whose hearts are more rusty or in need of restoration than their cars. Shame on you.

Regards

Ray

I have enjoyed reading all of the post on this site but some of the best are yours and Grants. I to know the discouragement that restoring these cars can cause. When things go right it is the best moment and maybe in 10 or 20 years I will be able to drive my car. Some days I go out and look at the car and don't know where to begin or what to do next.Good job can't wait to see Monty done.

I too enjoy, appreciate, and am inspired by all the posts on this forum. I keep telling myself that ANY step taken on my project is a step forward. If something fails, I've learned something and work to make it right.

Another thing I find fascinating is the support and general good will from all over the globe. This site is truly a place for kindred souls.

Thanks, Dean

Gidday fellas,

Ray: Lovely words of reply, thanks for ya friendship mate...

Doug: no problems at all, glad you enjoy the banter and keep persisting with the small steps towards the bigger picture of your restoration.

Rustoholic: I to do enjoy the support and general good will that this website brings, I have received many good emails from around the world over this past 12mth regarding my old resto on Monty.....

BUT, I will not be told how I should act and talk on here as was the case a few weeks back via a telephone conversation that surprised me a little, as apparently "Myself and Ray are an embarrassment to the more senior and established chevrolet owners here in Australia who look in here from time to time with how we act on this website"...

Well F&*k the hierarchy bullshit of petty self important clubs, you are all no more special than the next bloke, I don't pertend to be anyone special other than a raw newbie having a go at living a personal dream in getting a car back on the road and you can laugh and point fingers at me all you want, but at the end of the day I will converse with and act how I want to on here and if you think I am an embarrassment the Australian chevrolet owners then you deal with it yourself and get a bloody life, because I am enjoying mine big time :)
Oh yes and BTW if you don't like how I post a question, reply to one or act on here then don't bloody look at my postings!!......Enjoy ya day!!!

Cheers Grant.

Gidday fellas,

Well I thought so, with over 260 views this was a good chance for the few Aussie "finger pointers" to chip in, and advise me how not to embarrass you, let alone myself by writing this but I gather it must be more rewarding to have a laugh behind closed doors.

Righto with that said I have a car to work on.....

Cheers Grant.

Well now Mr Fowler,

Embarrassed?
Not me!
Not the Chev owners in OZ that I know.
Not the USA Chev owners who read this site.
Not the 7,000 odd people that check out Monty's progress on your blog on a regular basis.

I think most Chev guys would have only admiration for what you have achieved in such a short time.

Must be those faceless men in grey suits that I always hear about.

Maybe that bloody tall poppy thing we have in OZ, cut em down, kick em, never praise.

Grant what ever you deciede to do with Monty, you go boy, if the going gets tough, you will run on pure motivation, me on coffee.Dont worry about the knockers, they are all dead on the inside anyway. Any man that cant respect a son doing something in memory of his late father cant have a heart in my book.

One thing is for sure mate, you are on a mission, and aint no one going to get in your way.

Hey, and when you park old Monty next to the Red Chev when we are out for a drive, not a trailer haul, but a drive, there is just one thing.

When a passer by says "who owns this old rusty car". I will proudly say.

Dont ask me, I never seen the bloody thing before. heh heh heh

Only joking.

Put me down as a booked passenger on the first day Monty is on the road. Would not miss it for quids.

Come on embarassed Aussies, or should I say Aussie, show your selves!

You know who you are.

Put into print what you could only say one on one on the telephone.

I am happy to be judged by my peers, are you?

Maybe I am an embarrassment too, let me know, happy to leave the site, leave the club, close down the blog.

At least I'll still be welcome in the Red Chev in Gippsland by a true blue mate for a coffee, I hope?

Better finish now, otherwise I might just slip and name the Aussie that started all this.

You take on Grant, you get me as well. You apologize and I'll respect you for being a big enough man to do so.

That is enough

...Once more I am enjoying being a part of this site and this forum.
Tell it like it is guys!
We are all cut from the same cloth, we that have a special place in our make-ups for fellow old timey car and truck lovers.
Ever once in a while it is good to just go out to the shop or garage, or under the tree and think and marvel about the men that engineered and built these old Chevrolets.
Doing Monty and Klinkerbelles just to honor our Dads that have moved on to that "big garage in the sky" and are working on them Golden Chariots with the Bowtie showing across the shineing cowls.

See you there later....
