I have a working carburetor on my 32 and although it is period correct for the 30's, am told it is not a correct 32 carburetor. Can someone give me identifying marks, number, pictures, whatever to choose the correct model??? I have a number of similar carburetors, one of which I think is the original for the car but I remember my dad saying the car ran better with the other carb on it. Thanks for any help possible

The correct carburetor for a 1932 Chevrolet passenger car is a Carter W1 212-S (early), or 235-S (late). Both carburetors have a large air mixture screw up high near the float bowl and no vacuum port down low by the flange. Also, the throttle arm is straight with no dog-leg.

Your dad was correct when he said that the car ran better with a different carburetor. The most recommended one is the Carter 569S , which is a later carter w1(1946 on) fitted with the 1932 to 1936 throttle lever. It is recommended here for daily drivers all the time.

I have three W-1 cabs. Two have a number of patent numbers and a small idle mixture screw and one that has a large mixture screw and patent pending with two dates listed under it. I assume this is the original carburetor for this car. Who sells rebuild kits for this???
Thanks, Chris

You can buy rebuild kits for your carburetor from several sources. Filling Station, Daytona Products, Bill Denman are several of them. The best kits are available from the Carburetor Shop but are pricy. The kits contain gaskets and needle and seat (which are garbage). If you need more parts then the Daytona Products or Carburetor Shop are your best bet. When you have problems getting the "rebuilt" carburetor to run right then you will need to send it to a knowledgeable rebuilder. There are a few in the VCCA that are familiar with the W-1 carburetors.

Chevytech3238, you will have to varify which of the three W1 carbs you wish to rebuild , they may have a stamped in number in the mounting face (gasket face). If you cannot find the stamped number , then you will have to compare other features such as the number of screws in the float bowl and the number of screws holding the choke assembly, and the absence of a vacuum port on a 1932 carb. As Chipper or the JY dog will tell you , do'nt put the wrong kit in the wrong carburetor or you will be sorry later.
