The seat in my 1935 Master 5-w coupe won't adjust. I raise the latch, but the seat is stuck. I am trying to remove the seat now. I removed the left and right side forward clips, but the rear attachment is puzzling. I can't tell how the lower seat, side boards, and seat back are connected. Does anyone know where to find information on this seat, or know how to remove it?

Joe, I just wen out to take a look at my 35 Standard Coupe seat to see how it mounted. Under each front corner is a bracket which anchors the seat adjusting frame to the floor. Each of these brackets has two bolts into threaded fixtures in the body sill. The back of the frame rests on a couple of mushroom shaped pegs. As I recall, I removed the bolts at the front and was able to slide the whole assembly off the mushrooms to free it from the body. My seat has a wire from right to left so the handle will release latches on both sides at the same time. There is also a shaft from right to left side with gears on both ends. These gears run in a rack at each side. This keeps the two sides "in time" with each other so the passenger side doesn't lag behind the drivers side as you move your body to make the seat move forward or back. If any of this stuff is seized, you will not be able to move the seat. I hope this helps. Mike Look for a bolt or pair of bolts at each corner of the adjusting mechanism

Joe, Sorry about that last line above, ignore it. I thought I had deleted it. Mike

Mike, Thanks for the info. Are the seat bottom and back 1 piece? From the trunk, the seat back looks like part of the frame of the car; but from the interior, it all looks like one assembly. Maybe I'm missing something.

Hi Joe. If your seat is similar to my 35 Standard, then the seat mechanism has rubber spacers that squish and make the seat bind. From what I remember when I took mine out, I had to put vice grip pliers on the cross shaft while holding the seat unlatched, and turn the shaft to move the seat backwards or forwards until holes in the seat base lined up with the bolts.
The other thing I seem to remember is that some of the screws are accessable with the seat cushion out.
It is a while since I had mine out so this description may not be 100% accurate but I think it is. I hope this is of help. ......Good luck, David

Joe, The view from the trunk of my car ('35 Standard Coupe) is of the back of the seat. The seat will come out as a unit by removing two cap screws at each front corner. There is room to reach under the seat with an open end wrench and remove these bolts. Once loose from the floor, the whole assembly will slide forward off a pair of mushroom headed pegs, as I recall. The seat in your Master Series car may be different. Fortunately you are working on a Chevy. If the going gets tough, no torch needed, a chain saw will work just fine. Mike

I just removed my bench seats from my 36 Master. The front floor mount has 3 bolts and the only one that needs to be removed is the one closes to the door. There is a "J" shaped bracket connected to this bolt which will remove the seat.
