Help, I'm having a problem figuring out my speedometer in my 36 pick-up. There is a ratio box on the trans that the speedo cable connects into. I got a new cable from Jim Carter Truck Parts and still have a problem. there is a pin about 1&1/2" long that goes into the trans with a pinched ear on both ends and then the other end inserts into the ratio box. The cable then connects to the speedo end of the ratio box, but the problem seems to be that the cable is square on the trans end and the ratio box hole is slotted .
is it possible that I am missing an adapter that fits between the speedo cable and the ratio box? I appreciate any and all information that any one can give me. Thanks, Richard :(

The 1936 and earlier vehicles used the square end cable (and also "pin" if used). The "pin" you have is for a 1937 and up.What you would need is a "pin" with a 1936 square on on end and the 1937 and up type connection on the other....I doubt if such an animal exists.

What is your truck 1/2 or 1.5 ton? What is the rear axle ratio? The 1/2 ton with 3 & 4 speed trans. used to same cable but the 4 speed had a different drive & output gear ratio in the trans for the speedo. The only trucks that used the adaptors were the 1.5 ton with bigger tires (7.50x20 - 8ply or with 32x6-10ply tires).

34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

I would bet the oldred36 purchased a new speedo adapter to correct error due to a rear axle change on his 1/2 ton.

If not, an adapter is not necessary for the stock 4.11 rear end. Also would doubt if there is an adapter available for the pre 1937 1/2 ton.

Hey Guys, Thanks to all for the info. I got in touch with a parts man this morning and purchased another speedo gear for the trans so I should be able to just swap them out and eliminate the ratio box. My truck is a 1/2 tn with the 4 speed...... Richard
