Had a pretty fun day on Chevrolets 100th birthday. Woke up this morning , oiled up the rockers and other things on my 28 Coach and headed south in the pouring rain. I was on a mission to help identify an early Chevy truck in a small town in southern Indiana. I belive it is a 27 model LM 1 ton and had an oil tanker bed. It has a restoration underway so it was all apart, but everything points to 27. The engine casting number is 346709 and engine number T3092949. The casting date of B237. The engine has Ferro listed as the foundry. After digging around and getting a tour of 3 buildings stuffed with tractors hit and miss engines and old cars I headed back home as fast as I could because I didn't watch the clock and had to be at my GFs sons basketball practice. After practice we took a short Centennial cruise around town and finally came back home. The 28 did great but out on the highway after running full speed for a while, it started surging, it would run right if I slowed down a bit so I better look at it. Maybe that little fitting that is missing in my intake vac port does something afterall!

28 Chevy LO Capitol 1 ton, 28 National 2 dr coach, 71 Chevy Custom Camper 3/4 ton. Also 23 Oldsmobile Economy truck and a 24 Olds sport touring.

Sounds like a good day! Lizzy made a specail dinner, and we toasted old Durant and his company. I fired up the '53 truck to make a dumpster run, and then just for good measure started the 1916 and did a very short ride. Had to do something to recognzie the day.

Today is certainly a day of automotive history to remember. Since I live in the cold windy city (and that it was today) I had to be content to just get the old '17 ready for winter hibernation. Through it all I could only imagine how the old fellows worked their magic to bring together a company that would become the Chevrolet Motor Co. 100 years old, and even though he left the company early on, I think Louis Chevrolet would be proud! Here's to you William Durant & Louis Chevrolet........

Cheers, parking
Gary
