Hello I am a newbie and I have a '35 chevy master 5 window coupe (two seater) with suicide doors. I was telling a friend and they claim it is a very rare car. I guess Chevrolet only did these for a short period of time in 1935 ? Is there anyway to know how many of these were actually made ? And are they very rare ? any thoughts please share.
Thanks in advance
Jim

The 1935 Master 5 window coupe (business coupe) was made for one year...just like any other model. There were 40,201 made.11,901 of the 3 window rumble seat coupes were made and the coach, which was a 2 door with out a trunk, was the most popular with 102,996 produced.

Gene is right 99.99% of the time, so I hesitate to say what I'm about to say...

In the Master series the 3 window coupe was called a Master Deluxe Sport Coupe (list price $600) and the 5 window was called a Master Deluxe Coupe (list price $560). How Chevrolet could sell a car with 2 additional (non-operating) windows and trim for $40 less beats me.
In my literature there is no reference to a "business" coupe in either the Standard or Master series.

For '35, the rarest of the rare are the Standard Phaeton and Roadster.

Chevrolet's offical name for the 5 window coupe was "coupe- 2 passenger" in the sales literature and 5 window coupe in the parts book.I should not have used the "business" as that came later.

The 3 window coupe is described as "2-4 passenger" coupe and or "Sport Coupe".

I guess that they didn't charge extra for windows but did charge extra for the rumble seat and steps to get into it on the Sport Coupe. Also they knew it would have greater value 70 years later. wink

Hey, I often refer to them as business coupes myself. It's a generic term we've all come to use.

You're right about charging extra for the rumble seat; the extra upholstery and the step pads must have been the difference; the Sport Coupe also weighed 30 pounds more so that might have also contributed to the higher price.

And yes, I would pay more for the rumble seat...it's a lot neater than a trunk!

G'Day from OZ, I have a 35 Master sports Roadster, but probably the rarest Coupe of all is the 35 Master Slope back Coupe [like an aerosedan] first built by GM-Holdens for the 35 Master series. It was the first use [that I know of] of the Station wagon type folding back seat that left a flat floor. They were built up to 1940.
