My 1968 Camaro has a 327/275 and having major problems with idle and low end speeds
Adance id ar 15 degrees, dwell at 28 new 45S AC Plugs, new Delco Wires,New Point Dist. and Advance, Compression at 160 to 170 vacuum at idle 19 inches.
The engine runs super rich and plugs are blackened with soot and the exhaust is to strong it will run you out of the garage
My Quadrajet builder said it is not the Carb.?
Would appreciate any suggestions as I have been working on small blocks for years and I'm stump, engine has about 10k on a complete rebuild with a mild cam, Thanks Denny

Check the rocker arm travel. Some of the new cams are not properly hardened and will loose lobes.

Thanks, checked the tolerance at static vavles that were closed had the right travel and non engaged rockers allowed the push rod rotated with just a slight drag
Not very good at setting valves but there was no clatter and the engine was built with a Melling camshaft but a grind just over stock or RV

When I was working as an auto mechanic in the 70's, I remember some Q-jets having problems with the floats absorbing fuel and becoming to heavy. Alot of carb rebuilders overlooked this.

The well plugs are known to leak in a Quadrajet.

Yes I have a Q-jet body (original for our 68 327 275HP) that had been repaired with JB Weld and finally gave up the Ghost when the threads for the needle and seat corroded and wouldn't hold threads. I bought an exact replacement Holly rebuild through my local Mom & Pop auto parts, farm equipment store. for $125 5 years ago. They were only going to allow me $21 for my old core so I kept it for internals. The bottom of the float bowl was paper thin.
