I have temporarilly replaced my 34 Chev 1/2 ton pickup coil (207 engine) with a generic plastic 6 volt. I am on the lookout for an original equipment look replacement. I may have located a '37 coil. Does anyone know if there are any significant differences in these 2 years. wjb

The Master Parts Price List shows the same coil from 1933-1940. I think 1937 up were mounted to the head instead of the firewall, but maybe the mounting holes are the same.

The original 1934 and 1937 coils LOOKED the same BUT the eletrolock cap attacthed in a different manner. The replacement coil sold by Delco (and others) came with out the "cup" that the eletrolock cap clipped unto. The "cup" was sold as a seperate part to adapt as necessary...The coil on a '34 was on the firewall-1935 and up on the head. This made no difference as to the coil its self but required a longer cable for the eletrolock.

George and Chevgene---Thanks very much for the information.

As you said, my coil is on the firewall. I'm not sure that I am understanding fully about the "cup," but I assume it is the portion of the assembly where the positive wire exits the coil. Is that correct or did I completely miss the point? If so, is the "cup" a separate piece that I could possibly put on a different coil?

Again, thanks for any info. wjb

The thing that I refered to as the cup would be on top of the coil.It has the slots in it that the Eletrolock lock into. Its built into the original coil but completely missing on the new replacement coil. The parts book refers to it as an adapter cup and its attached to the replacement coil with two screws...some new coils came with the adapter cups packed in the box...if not a new correct one would need to be purchased..One for the 1933-34 and one for the 1935-40.If your coils are not original -and most that age are not-they may already have a removable cup on them.

An original coil will have a thin brass ring around the bottom edge,,the replacements have a thick black bakelite ring on the bottom.

Also what is necessary will depend if you have an original eletrlock or not - or you may have just a plain replacement switch with no armored cable running from the switch to the coil enclosing the wire...which makes it impossible to hot wire the car.
