Really need help finding the VIN on my 32 Coach. It has been in the family for 50 years and registered with a # I cannot find. Can anyone tell me where their VIN is? I am new to the forum and love it. Thank you for your help!

Hi BUDDO,
Welcome to chevy Chatter,
The 1932 coach does not have a VIN as we know them nowadays, They were originally given a serial number , which in the case of a 1932 coach is on an aluminum plate attached to the RH sill just in from the door. It may be under the carpet , or it may have fallen off,and now be missing.

Was the Vin# on the sill plate the same as the number stamped on the right side of the engine?

No.

If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.

The number on the sill plate is not a VIN number, it is a "car serial number" which is different than the VIN number that is used today. The number stamped on the engine is the "engine serial number".

Many States, if not pretty well all, used the engine number for the title purposes.

I have a registration from 1957 with 12B2233 as the serial # and another box listed as engine #. I have found that engine # on the engine and it matches. But it is not the # it is registered with. It is registered with the 12B2233 #. I have located a plate underneth the carpet with a # that starts with 12B but then has more letters after it. I have seen some things that say there is a # on the frame. Does anyone know of this. I am willing to lift the body off to find it. Thanks for the help.

The US 1932 frames did not have a frame number stamped in.
the floor tag may be 12 BA ...... similar to the first one shown at Bill Barkers www.1931chevrolet.com website.
The first one is a Confederate (BA) series, and the other are Independence AE model Floor Tags.

GREAT NEWS!! and Bad news. The "VIN" is on the plate nailed to the floor board. The bad news is that the vehicle has been registered with the wrong # for 60 years, it is missing digits. Registered with 12B2233 but the right # is 12BA052233. Its not that big of a deal, I will get it figured out. The last 4 digits of the # are so faint you can only see them if you lay a flash light down and shine it over the plate. That is why I didn't think this was the right plate. Thank you all for your help!

You can also try doing a rubbing with charcoal or soft pencil to record the faded stamped numbers.
