I've been working on my driver's door window regulator for a while now trying to get it loosened up. I've soaked the regulator housing with various lubricants and oil (this is where the handle attaches). But it's still very tight to roll up and down. The passenger side regulator is just fine. What's next? Do I take the three rivets out and disassemble the housing where the handle attaches? What will I find inside?

Just so you know. I am replacing the rollers. The ones that Chev of the 40s have the wrong size rivets even though their site says they fit 37-54. Chevs of the 40s sells the 1/4" rivet and rollers. The 41 chevy calls for 5/16" rivets and rollers. Our good friends at The Filling Station carry the proper ones.

Check the window channels and see if they are adjusted too tight. some times the channel will drag if they are new. does the regulator crank allright with the glass out?

No. The regulator is out of the car and in my hands. It's too tight. When I could barely rolled the window up, I thought the same thing about the window channels and thought it needed new rollers. So I took the regulator out of the car to change the rollers. I discovered it was hard to crank out of the car too. I've soaked it and soaked it in oil. I'm thinking the only other thing to do is take the housing apart.

Just curious, is your 1941 an Easter car?

Brandon, You may have to take the housing apart. I had one that was rusted solid. It had so much grit in it, the bearing was pitted. I had to put in a kit sold by the "Filling Station". Or you might find one on Ebay or maybe someone here might have an extra one for sale. Good Luck! carbana

I've looked on ebay with no luch for a while now. I just took the housing apart. If anyone else decides to do this, be sure to take the spring off first! I almost lost a finger when it came apart and got a nice cut. Inside the housing there are no bearings. Just some internal cylinders and a coiled spring around one of the cylinders. Anyone know what the purpose of the spring is?

The spring is to counterbalance the weight of the glass and therefore make it easier to roll up and down.
