I would like to tow a 16 ft. Scamp Travel Trailer with my 54 Station Wagon stick shift. I think I'm going to have to modify a receiver that's intended for something else. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what receiver would modify easily. Maybe there is someone with some personal experience that might have a suggestion such as make, model and brand of car. Also maybe even where to cut and weld.
Thanking anyone in advance for their input.

My personal non-professional feeling is a 16 foot trailer might a little big for your station wagon to tow for very long distances. I think a lot depends on how far you want to tow. If you're only going down to the river, or to a show, and you're going less than 25 miles, in the daytime, in nice weather, you won't have to worry as much as you would if you were going hundreds of miles.

I'll tow my Hillbilly RV 1,600 miles, day/night/rain/shine and then two weeks later turn around and tow it back 1,600 miles.

If you intend to tow very much, you should go to a place that installs hitches and let them do the work. Believe me, the last thing you want is for your hitch to fail while you're running along about 60 mph.

I think with the correct hitch you should be OK. I started camping with my parents in 1946 and I have seen lots of campers being towed by cars in the 40s and 50s. It can be done.

Now that's cool! Do you have lot of those little pine tree air fresheners hanging up?

It could be "what" or it could be "way". Either one would work if you think about it hard enough..... crazy

Dean, I don't have to. It's an old 2-horse, horse trailer, and when I tore all the old wooden paneling off the inside I replaced it all with 3/4 Yellow Pine 1X4's. So it has an au-natural piney fragrance to it... but as that nice pine smell wears out I'll probably go buy a few dozen of those little pine air fresheners and hang 'em up! laugh
