Hi Folks,

I have thought of getting a pair of YOM 1951 Texas License Plates for my Chevy. After looking at some of the tags for sale, I have noticed the plates on the left side have two letters, one over the other followed by three to four numerals. Does anyone have a reference to the meaning of the letters or their designation?

In my search, I have seen photos of 1951 Texas tags that have the lettering for "Farm Truck" or "Truck" but still have the two letters on the left. I would assume the plates without anything written on the lower part would be for passenger cars.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

In Kansas starting in '51 the letters were the county abbreviation. For instance my home county is Cowley and the tags would have a C over an L then the number. <CLICK>
