Could someone describe to me the orientation of the shackle plates. I can't remember how they were when I pulled them; basically I just want to know which one has the 90 degree bent end, the inside or the outside and how does that little bend go (pointing in or out and top or bottom)?

Also at some point there was a shock kit put in allowing for modern shocks which I am replacing with originals. The bottom attaches with a bracket with four holes (the U-bolt goes through two of them) and the shock mounts on the end of them. Is this the original bracket which the shock arm attaches to or is this bracket from the kit? If not the original, do any of the part suppliers have this bracket?

Wow, I didn't think this one would be a stumper! Could someone just post a picture of the original shock absorbers connected to the leaf springs?

Really !...come on guys ! I'd forgotten all about this and I've got the original delco units in the mail headed this way . Bought them on Ebay last week . I'm in exactly the same situation . Thank You

The shackle is installed uo-side-down and extends above the hanger rather than below. The longer end of the side plate faces down - that is the straight cut-off end. Te top is rounded so as to clear the looped bracket that is attached to the frame.
There are two plates that fit under the rear sring and are held in place by the U bolts. Thefront plate is longer towards the center of the car.
The longer or extended part has a round hole that the end of the shock link goes throgh.The link has a rubber bushing above and below the plate and a cup shaped washer above the top bushing and below the bottom + anut that threads onto the end of the link.

What I have to ad at Chevgenes information is that the hole that the link end is tightened is tapered in case you have to fabricate your own.

Thanks Guys...I think I get it now , and although I have just one "plate" rather than two , the hole appears to be in the proper place . Having never seen one installed before , the unit looks odd , with that second "arm" and all . Kevin

Got the shocks in the mail...see what you mean by the tapered end piece...I've got a lathe and tapered reamers I'll figure something out...
