Hi Everyone,
My son and I discovered a car in the woods of a relatives property. Its in pretty bad shape, but most of it is still there. It is a convertible and has wooden spoke wheels.
It has a fisher body corp tag on the firewall that reads
FIsher Body Corp Job #8260 Body No. 9790
There is also a tag in the trunk with No 322048-28
Any help with this would make my son's day.
Thank you,
Charlie

Do you find any dataID plate inside the body or in the engine room? Any #s on stamped/welded on the engine? Pictures will also help a lot.

Bear in mind that it may not be a Chevrolet or for that matter even a GM car. Fisher made bodies for many makes including Oakland, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Viking, Buick, and probably many others even beyond 1926 when GM finished buying Fisher. We have a '29 Chev coupe with a Fisher job number of 8880, we also have a '28 Chrysler Golf Club Coupe with a Fisher job number of 7880. The Chevrolet has a letter in front of the body number indicating it was made in Fishers Janesville WI plant. The Chrysler has no letter in front of the body number but the Chrysler body number on the cowl next to the Fisher tag says Detroit, so Fisher may have only produced bodies for non GM cars in Detroit. I don't know. A local friend has a '29 Pontiac. It has no badging on the car at all. Only the hub caps, and radiator cap identify it as a Pontiac, so if those were missing it would be really difficult to identify. Sounds like a really good project to investigate and determine what year, make, and model the old car is. It might turn out to be something really unique. Good luck and keep us inquiring minds informed.

It seems to be a 1928 body but it's definitely not a Chevrolet body. It could be a Buick, Oakland or Pontiac. The engine number will confirm I hope: ohv = Buick and L-head Oakland/Pontiac and all the latter had 'P' prefixes.

Oldsmobile engines for '28 & up used an "F" in front of the engine number, which can be found stamped into the block, just above the water pump. The letters "FL" denote F series LHD,FR denotes RHD.Another give awayis the pressedsteel water jacket cover plate on the drivers side of the block with "OLDSMOBILE" in raised pressed in letters. Prior to '28,Olds used the following engine number prefixes to denote model year: 1923 - "A",1924 - "B",1925 - "C",1926 - "D",1927 - "E"

23- 27 Olds were flat head and the number is stamped on a pad near the upper water outlet. the number will start with the letter. If it is an Olds please let me know!
28 Chevy LO Capitol 1 ton, 28 National 2 dr coach, 71 Chevy Custom Camper 3/4 ton. Also 23 Oldsmobile Economy truck and a 24 Olds sport touring.

If the tag on the rear crossmember has a letter "P" at the start of the numbers(it's a bit hard to see),then it looks like the remains of a 1928 Pontiac Coupe.A picture of the engine and engine No. would probably confirm it.

From the view of the rear LH wheel & spokes, you can just make out the external brake band, and I reckon that this points to it being the remains of a 1928 Pontiac Coupe. If the engine has 2 separate heads with the distributor in between the heads, and a water manifold connecting the 2 heads to a crossflow honeycomb core,it makes more likely to be a '28 Pontiac. The '28 pontiac's used the running gear of a '28 Chev 4,but used their own engine, chassis etc.
