OP Fleetliner Shade Tree Mechanic Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 48 Michigan	It's time for me to replace the babbit motor in my Fleetline with the 235 on the engine stand. I've read that the complete front sheetmetal must be removed to perform the swap, and Ive also been told removing the radiator and core support crossbar is all that's needed. Im looking for suggestions from those who've done it. Also, can the trans be removed without removing the rear axle? Any information is appreciated.

chevy50jim Oil Can Mechanic Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 535 Denver, Colorado	I do it by removing the radiator and loosening the support tube (right side parking and headlight wire go through it). Open up the torque tube ball joint and split the universal joint. You can now remove everything attaching the engine and transmission to the car, attach a hoist to the head bolts, and work it out the front and over the grille.
