Me again with a silly question, please bear with the grease monkey.

What is the liter capacity of a 31 cehvy fuel tank?

Reason I asked, I haven't had a chance (yet) to go to a filling station to fill her up as she is still in restoration.

I wondered because I need to know how much MMO to put in with each fill up.

Thanks

My 31 coupe has a ten gallon gas tank on it. You can figure out the litres from that. Why are you putting MMO in the tank? I do not use any additives in mine. So far I have put almost 4500 miles since it was restored and have not had any problems with it.

Im asking because the guys recommend to add some MMO to the gas as per https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/topics/219363/Broken_pushrod#Post219363

We have a different product in South Africa, think its called Valve ease.

Now I'm confused ! I might have a sticky valve myself. What should I do ? Sounds like Cyl. # 5 .

MMO. i understand why it would help prevent a sticking intake valve, i have only had sticking exhaust valves. is it not burned in the explosion and so can lube the exhaust or what???

I have used MMO top side and soaked the valve stem and valve guide and then tapped on the valve stem (rocker arm & shaft removed) to loosen carbon around the valve stem inside the valve guide until the valve spring pulls the valve up when it is tapped down with a hammer. Sometimes an aftermarket umbrella valve stem seal will work to well keeping the overhead oiling from lubeing the stem inside the guide. I have had this happen on a 235 head a modern machinest reworked and set the valve stem/guide clearances to values for a modern Small Block V/8. After 450 miles the exhaust valve stuck and bent the pushrod.

Just curious,is there a downside to using MMO mixed in the fuel? I have been using it since being advised to do so by a VCCA member on the chat some time ago---probably gone through 10 full tanks of fuel so far----should I not use MMO or is it strictly a personal preferance,or a waste of money,or detremental to the engne??? I put huge amounts of faith in the info I get from all the members here----I am certain they ALL know more than this rookie!!! Thanks,Jay

The only down side effect I can think of may be higher operating cost if you add a lot to each tank. Of course if you use too much MMO/gallon of gas it may foul a plug before the engine gets warmed up. I use about a cup to 10 gallons, about every third tank in everything from weedeaters riding mowers walkbehind mowers, trimmers, roto-tillers, old Chevrolets to the 2005 Tahoe. I also MMO to fogg the engine of anything that sits in the shed over the winter, and it doesn't seem to affect the starting next spring.

I also use some Seafoam to stabilize the gas for a couple of months, to a year.
