Hi guys,
What should the oil pressure reading be on a 31?

Hi Oukar,
On my '30, which I believe has the same type vane pump as a '31, the oil pressure starts off, when cold, at from 15 to 20 pounds. As the motor heats up, the pressure drops to about 5 or 6 pounds when hot, and even a little less when idling.

Thanks DanR
I dont get any reading on my gauge. The needle point to the right side edge of the 0 , cold or after the engine ran a while. My temperature looks fine, @ just past the middle of Normal area.
How can I check if my oil pressure assembly is working properly? Any tests I can perform?

You can disconnect the oil gauge line at the gauge ,and run the engine and see if you have oil coming up to the gauge, as the oil line may be blocked. If you get no oil at the gauge , then disconnect the oil line at the engine , and see if you get oil out at the block.

Hi guys,
Back at this topic. When I start Emma, there is no oil pressure. I disconnect the oil line behind the guage and suck on the copper tube. A lot of air in the pipe and as I suck one can feel the oil line purging and the air come out followed by the oil. The engin imediately run smoother as well. Reconnecting at the guage I get good pressure.
By doing this once, one can drive, switch off and it works fine hot or cold, would be fine for the day but the next day I need to do this again.
Checked the oil line from guge to the block and connection at block is good and tight.
Using 10 W 30 oil and I start to think that the oil is too thin?
Any advice please
Regards
Awie

Hello Oukar, Suggest that you disconnect the oil line at the engine block and temporarily connect a test pressure gauge to the engine at that location, using appropriate connectors. Check that oil level is correct. Start engine and see what the test gauge indicates. If pressure is present, suspect an issue with the oil line and/or oil gauge in the dashboard. If no pressure at test gauge, suspect in issue from the fitting to within the engine at the point that the oil signal is tapped into. You could have sludge buildup anywhere in the system that may cause sticking and/or blocking issues. A degreasing/cleaning may be called for. I think that knowing or learning about the components within the oil pump would help also. I am not knowledgable about these components yet. Keep us informed.
