Assuming this is for a '48 truck (truckguy) We can go straight to wwwfillingstation.com / click:order online / type in:hood latch and you'll get: "Hood latch spring repair kit" part # GR-612 $13.50 plus shipping... I recall years ago my '52 chevy 3600 was missing that spring and that latch would flop around and not want to go in it's hole w/out assistance...what a pain...Good Luck

Don't believe their interchangeable...otherwise they'd say so...latch on auto appears longer and spring appears to have a loop around the pin...truck version is straight..no loop. Hard to say if truck spring would work in auto latch w/out side by side comparison...one would wonder why auto latch spring is not offered(little demand)...any help out there ?

If you have at least part of the old spring and can measure how long it needs to be, you can get the spring at Ace or most fastener stores. I had a spring missing off an old '40 latch plate and removed the cover from a good one and measured it to replace the other one.

Unfortunately it's not the latch "plate" spring but the "safety" latch "positioning" spring (under the hood) and w/out it that safety latch flops around and you can't even let someone unfamiliar with your situation close your hood or it can wreak havoc on your safety latch (missed hole/bent sideways) Thanks!

Just looked at my 48. Looked at Chev's of the 40's and The Filling Station and the Car Shop and no one show's that spring.
Is yours broken? If you still have the spring, drill out the rivit and take the broken spring to a hardware store and look for one that might work. Or call one of the vendors and see if they have an idea. Or find a bad hood and get one from there.

If you can get the length, diameter, and thickness of the coil, these folks may be able to help. They usually have a lot of springs on hand and can cut one down if they have a similar but longer one.
