Hi. I just wanted to quickly share a picture of my 37 Chevrolet Master Deluxe. Before anyone points out the obvious incorrect details, a quick story.

This was my grandfather's car which he originally purchased in 1937. He drove it up to the early sixties and it sat in his garage until the mid seventies when he gave it to my father. My dad had it sitting in his garage until about 10 years ago when he had a complete frame-off restoration done and then gave it to me for my 50th birthday several years later. (What a dad!)

You'll notice the front and rear bumper are not correct. I have the originals and they are in great shape. My dad didn't have them put back on because he wanted me to drive the car as much as possible without worrying about dinging up the bumpers.

You'll also notice it has a black painted grill. My dad said that grandpa got into a small accident back in 1943 and because the war was going on he was not able to get an original grill due to the metal shortage. They put on this plain grill and dad wanted to keep it like that. I'm glad he did. It adds to the family history of the car. My grandpa also never put on white walls, hence the black tires.

Thanks for looking. If you have any questions, please let me know. thanku

Great car...I love it when folks respect a original car like that and leave it just the way it survived and want to keep it just the way it is and not drill a bunch of holes in it to put on a bunch of crap and bling that was never there to start with...GOOD JOB and great history....ED

I was only wrong one time in my life so far. But that time I was right, and only thought I was wrong....ED

I agree with Ed here. Your car's pedigree and provenance transcend the addition of bling AND the pursuit of "correctness".

What a fine looking car! I'd never thought about a '37 grill being done like that; it looks really sharp. Keeping it in the family is petty cool too. Congratulations!

As a 41 owner, I can't think what your granddad had against your father and what your father had against you. Either one of them could have traded that thing in for a 41. Mercy!

Awe, I"m just a-B.S.ing you.

You have a really nice looking car. Great story, too. (Worthy of sending in to G&D, I would venture). The picture of the interior shows it's in great shape, as well. Three generations of ownership! Wow! Do you have anyone to hand it down to?

I'm not sure I agree with you about changing out the bumpers and grille. After all, one way to look at it is that your Grandpa bought it with the right bumpers and grille. So what would be the harm in returning to original? Of course, that is strictly your call and I respect your decision.

Also, the trend seems to be to clutter a nice car like yours with an extra exterior visor. Thank heavens you haven't gone that route. And, I agree with you that white walls would do nothing for this car. It looks swell just the way it is.
Enjoy it,
Charlie computer

Charlie - Your jesting comment sparked something I forgot to ask my father.

After the war my Dad traded in his 1937 coach for a 1941, but he went from Chevrolet to Plymouth and stayed with Plymouth until his later years when he bought a town car. Never thought to ask him why, as his first car was a 1928 Chevy coach, followed by a 1932 coach before the 1937.

But getting back to the original subject, that ia great looking '37 and a great story to back it up and I wouldn't change a thing.

Roger
