Well, after going unscathed many times in the crazy weather we've been having in the midwest, I finally had some damage to the windshield of my 78 Impala from something hitting it. Cracked the windshield too much for repair. Called a bunch of shops and only reproduction glass is available. Being an all-original car, I'd like to keep the LOF engraving in the glass. I've looked around junk yards all over and no one has an original intact windshield and any place that does is far (2+ day drive) away and won't ship. So I'm reaching out to the folks here and seeing if anyone knows of a company that sells the original glass or if someone has a spare windshield laying around-- even a parts car with an original windshield would work. I have learned a fun fact that makes it even more challenging-- even though 1977-90 windshields are the same, the cut out for the vin is wider on 1981-90 models so the later ones are not a "perfect" replacement. I can't spend a grand on a windshield, but I can certainly pay a good price for a good, original replacement.

Hi dtb305,
I've had great luck with Pilkington auto glass. They specialize in vintage auto glass and original obsolete glass. They can also etch your LOF coding into the glass as well. They shipped my windshield no problems. They should be able to help you out.good luck,Jim
