How many turns of the steering wheel on a 1928 turns the wheels lock to lock?
my car is in bits (never had it together) but the box seems to turn from what must be lock to lock in c1.5 turns of the steering wheel, is this correct.
As my axles are very life expired and they are not the easiest/cheapest to get in the UK (including brake bits all being missing) i was planning to put it on a pair of modified LDV 200/pilot axles as they are a similar size and appearance, in fact the back is already on but iam going to have to do some head scratching if the steering boxes turn lock to lock so quickly.

Near leeds, Axles are on its just going to be an awkward job linking the steering up and only 2 turns on the box hardly seems enough to get any reasonable sort of reduction, just wondered if mine was an unusual steering box and whether some others has more reduction.

The 1928 Steering Gear (box) does not have internal stops. When the steering pitman arm is removed from the gear unit you can turn the steering wheel/gear continually. The vehicle front wheel trun angles are controlled by stops located between the steering knuckles and the front axle (both sides).
Is your steering system completely original?

Oldie is correct it doesn't matter if it is LH or RH drive it is a worm drive box with no stops internally,it will keep rotating all day long .The stops are mounted on the front axle at he point of the king pin locking pin these prevent the stub axle from travelling past that point.

Ozjim,
Are you the Jim who may or may not be making the head and thermo housing studs for me, hopefully you will be.
In relation to Grant and his cool RHD drive Monty, he has a special modified front end. One stub axle stop and nut missing. Must be Gippsland bush mechanics. But all will soon be attended to.
Luckily He does not drive it?
cheers
Ray
Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

Its a RHD 1928 4 dour tourer car which i am pretty sure comes from Australia although don't know much about its history.
Don't suppose you have some spare door hinges for the drivers door (only the part which fastens to the door) or the door latches for both drivers side doors?

Can you post a picture of your 28 Chev as I might be able to identify it. Also have a few spare hinge parts, I'll have look and let you know. Chris
