I don't know about a 35 but I do know the 36 trucks had Oldmobile flathead engines. I would suspect the 35's did too.

836010 is the casting number for a 1936 Chevrolet block.(also used as a replacement for 1935's in the later years.Has full length water jackets and 1935 did not)1935-36 US GMC trucks (smaller trucks) used Oldsmobile flat head engine.

The Olds engine that you DO NOT have would have had insert bearings, 4 mains and full pressure lubrication.....you have non of those features.

Is this a Canadian truck??-either that or it had a engine transplant,

Right..the answer is that certain Canadian GMCs starting in 1933 used Chevrolet engines aas they were alternative versions in the smallest GMC line-up, of heavy-duty Chevrolets namely Maple Leaf Trucks. They also used the Olds 6-cylinder L-head unit as per the US GMCs higher up the line-up. Prior to 1932, I think, they used Buick engines and had done since late 1927. It gets very complicated at times! From 1937 this all changed and you had Chevrolet abd Chevrolet-based 'Pontiac 224' engines for a time, and then GMC units....

For the export market there was a real mix-and-match from 1935 to 1940 with in some years, say 1937-40, Chevrolet, GMC and Oldsmobile trucks all sourced from Pontiac, Michigan Plant offering Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Hercules diesel engines in what we would now call clones...badge engineering.

If you could kindly post here or e mail me with your truck's serial number I may be able to check which engine was originally fitted.

I have a very good listing of Canadian GMCs from 1920 say to 1951 and am always happy to answer any queries on Canadian Chevrolets.

The engine, transmission and drive train are now in a 1931 Chevy, so the serial numbers wouldn't be helpful. All I had are the block numbers previously posted.
Thanks.
