I was just curious...those battery maintainers out there that they sell to attach to the battery terminals with the battery still installed in the vehicle, which in turn is suppose to maintain your battery so it that it "never goes dead". Do those actually WORK...or are they just a gimmic to drain your battery faster and leave you stranded?

These are not the external chargers that we know of that plugs into a cord. They are mobile with the car...and it's not a jumper.

I have a solar battery charger that plugs into the cigerette lighter. It says that its output is 12vac 1/2 amp. Whether it works in maintaining, I can see no difference. Bought on "As Seen On TV".

I have a Battery Butler that I bought new for $20 and it works great! It keeps my six volt battery fully charged all the time. The Battery Butler attaches to the battery while it is still in the vehicle.

I have used them and they work well. One word of caution, make sure you have water in your battery at all times.

Haggerty Insurance reports a number of batteries that have blown up because they ran dry. Since many early batteries were under seats or under floor boards they can do real damage if they blow.

I was thinking along the lines of something for my newer car. The old chevy gets a trickle charger but you kaint hand crank the new cars!

Just punched in Battery Butler and I see they have a Battery Quick-Disconnect for $10. Anyone ever use this one. Thanks.
