Headlights and taillights work (when headlights are on). In first switch position, I have no park and no taillights. I also have no stop lights. I just installed a 6 volt halogen retrofit headlight reflector kit. Any ideas what is causing my problem?

Sounds like you have a defective light switch. The contacts inside of the switch probably need cleaning.

By the way, your original generator is probably not going to like the halogen blubs very much.

Are you sure the switch is wired correctly?
Generally the headlights are on the 2nd notch with park lights on the first notch and taillights on both. The stop lights are not controlled by the light switch but by a switch connected to the brake pedal though the power for this may come from the battery terminal of the light switch.

All worked fine until I installed the halogen headlights. The fuse on the light switch is fine, but I replaced it with a new one anyway. The only difference with the halogens is I ran a separate ground wire for each headlight. I will try disconnecting the grounds later today, but I doubt that is a problem. My tailights always had their own separate ground because they will not function correctly without it. If all else fails, I will reinstall the original headlights.

What you might consider is to install headlight relays to supply current to the headlights.

Is it possible you have connected the headlights to the park light wire instead of the headlight wire either inside the bucket or the junction under the hood?

It is possible that the halogen bulbs pull so much current that the other lights are just very dim instead of not operating?

Excellent idea. Your generator will be happy also.
