I'm having a problem with pressure plate fingers moving too far forward when pressure plate is bolted down on flywheel. Pressure plate has been professionally overhauled, new 9" clutch disk centered with tool. Pressure plate fingers move the entire length of the slots forward leaving no margin for throwout bearing to push fingers further to disengage clutch. Does anyone have:
1. An idea what could cause this? 2. Specs for the correct pressure plate finger position pressure plate is bolted to flywheel? 3. Specs for correct throw-out bearing travel? 4. Specs for distance pressure plate lip should travel to final position aginst flywheel?
Any help appreciated. Regards, Max.

Or more was ground off the mounting face of the assembly than the pressure plate surface. Checking the thickness of the clutch plate is the first thing to do. Wish I could remember the correct thickness but a search should find it as it has been posted several times on ChatII.

The clutch plate lining discs should be 1/8" thick.

When I had my clutch rebuilt they surfaced the face where the pressure plate bolts on and they ended up taking too much off..... When I re-installed the pressure plate to the fly wheel the clutch was getting engaged. I ended up having to make a metal gasket between the mounting holes of the outer plate that holds the springs to the flywheel to provide the spacing needed for the clutch to operate again.

Thanks for all your responses and calls. Your information helped me to get off dead center and solve the problem. I think it was a combination of things. The new clutch plate material was a little too thick and the pressure plate may have had a little too much milled off the face that meets the flywheel. The short term solution was a set of .050 shims between the flywheel and pressure plate. The .050 made a tremendous difference in both the clearance between the clutch plate hub rivets and the pressure plate casting. Additionally, the shims moved the fingers from all the way forward in the slots (no margin to disengage the clutch) to the middle of the slot travel. Everything adjusted perfectly.... just in time for the Air Capitol Tour. Best Regards to all, Maxie.
