I guess I don't know where to search because I know we have talked about this but maybe outside of topic. Anyway I can't find it the answer. Vin numbers! Many of us don't have them on our beloved vehicles. I ordered an identification plate for my '28 truck. I will have to have it engraved but I don't know where to get the vehicle number because there are no other plates or identification numbers other than on the motor. You folks already identified it as being manufactured in Feb of '28. You have also told me I have a 1 ton because of the longer wheelbase, and I believe it is a Capitol LO. I pulled this quote from an article from pickuptruck.com "The Series name was changed to Capitol for both trucks in 1927 which lasted through 1928 - the last year for the four cylinder era."
I know there should be a plate on the passenger seat frame but not in my case, so I drew another blank. Do I use the number that is on my title (which says it is a 1926 pickup) or the number on the motor, or make up a number, visit a palm reader, count beans in a sock or add up the number of posts my friend Ray (28 is great) has submitted? Ray's number of posts may be too large to fit on the ID plate though! Ha!
Finally, where should I locate this plate on the vehicle when it has been engraved?
tks everybody, Jerry

Jerry Down here in Aus. in NSW our cars were only identified by stamped chassis number and most didn't have one. We now stamp a number in the chassis rail just behind where the steering comes through so that it can be easily read. If it was a 28 touring we used Ab followed by a 4 digit number starting at 1000. Might work over there but don't know. Chris

Gidday Chris,
Sorry for the no reply mate, as you always seem to throw your two bobs worths in the ring when I post up a problem for these bunch of chev brainieacks to sort out, which they do extremely well.
I have all the tags in place on ole Monty but I am still trying to work out all the jargon on them and being an Oz built car I am no help to you on this one mate, Good Luck!!

Hi Grant, Chris, Ray, and all,
If everybody just puts the identification plates on the passenger side then they will all be right...right? Oh wait, you Aussie's drive on the wrong side of the road, I keep forgetting! Well, the rest of us will be right and like I've always said, "you can't go wrong if you go right!" On the other hand, if you turn left four times in a row, technically you took a right anyhow! I know...draw it out on paper!
Where was I? Oh right, identification plates. John Vander Stad sent me a PM and told me, "The car number would be the engine serial number. That is stamped on the block near the distributor. Not the casting numbers. It is a flat place and the numbers are stamped in there. It does not attach to the firewall, but is nailed to the seat riser on the passengers side." BTW, John has a '26 pickup and a '28 1-ton. His '26 is an absolute beauty and very well done (restored). John, if you are reading this, I want to thank you for the information and response.
And good night to y'all...except you right hand drivers hanging upside down, it is good morning to the likes of you!
Jerry

Now Jerry, and may I call you Jerry.
We are special people in OZ, not only do we hang upside down with our 6 toes per feet, we run our cars on petrol, not gas, we visit our friends, not hang out, we have mates, not guys, and we drive on Gods side of the road, the left.
And yes by the way, our Chevs are special, not only do they have a Holden Body, but they have their own special ID plate on the passenger side, one of about 14,000 as oppossed to you guys that have one of about 1,200,000.
Thank you Jerry, as always it has been a pleasure for you to talk to me.
Regards to Sadie.
Ray
