Only 1938 fenders will fit a 1938. Can be from any body style except the rare trunkless sedans. The right business coupe fender will not have a gas filler opening. The 1937 fenders look the same but are more shallow so they are NG also.

Chevgene, why did Chevy make such a relatively minor change between the 37 and 38 rear fenders...almost takes a measurement to tell the difference...seems like an expensive tooling change for a nit! Billu38

In 1938 the rear spring to axle mounting wwas completely changed. It became rubber mounted rather than metal to metal, At that time they increased the rear tread (distance between the rear wheel). This allowed them to make the rear seat wider and the rear wheels wells didn't stick into the body interior as far. The change ( 1 7/16") made for a better ride and beter stability. After 1938 they offered only the 1938 fender for replacement on a 1937. If you note a 1937 fender is much flatter when installed.
There were many drive line changes made in 1938.....a much improved car.
