I hooked up he guage and no pressure....took out line and no oil comes out while running....took other plug out of block and no oil comes out...I don't have the filter on....eng. does not knock....pevious owner said he was driving the 54 the eng. is out of and no problems...I believe the guy....I did not put a new oil pump in when I had pan off.....puzzled!!!

Virg,
Ease the valve cover off and see if there is oil going to the rocker arms or not. Then let us know. It very well may be the oil pump, but a couple other checks are in order before you go to all that much trouble.

Took valve cover off....does not seem to be oiling...Virg

Do ya have to prime the pump if it has been without oil while tore down over the winter? Not really tore down just had the pan off.

When the oil pan was off did you take the oil pump off?

I think I found the prob. when I messed with the Vac. adv. I didn't get the Dist. all the way down. I cranked the eng. and oil came out the pressure hole. Now to get the timing back on so it will start and run....thanks for all the help....Virg

I had to restab the dist. got it started again with valve cover off....getting good oiling now....now to get the throttle linkage to work....thanks for the help

I had the same problem when I first put the 235 in my 51. It seemed to be run great but no oil pressue just like yours. I just took the cap & rotor off, put a little pressue on the shaft with a screw driver and had the wife keep bumping the starter button until it droped in. Glad you got it fixed.
