After three years of painting and trimming and replacing bits and peices my 1928 tourer is legal. I took friday off work, paid 3rd party insurance and state transport form to allow me to drive to inspection station. Then to transport department for offical sighting of chasis and engine numbers.
This is a 10 kilometer each way trip on feeder and major roads, for a car not driven on a road for probably 50 years, car took it ok but driver was a nervious wreck.
At the Transport Department I got a `new Australian` Asian lady, who had probably never seen a vintage car before and was convinced there sould be a compliance plate (these plates were not required till the 1960`s). I talked her round and she spent a while checking on her data base and finnaly handed over a set of number plates. I take my hat off to these workers when I here the bullshit and abuse they get from the customers around me.
By the time I got home sluge from the bottom of the sump had blocked the oil pump pick up, the radiator was spitting steam and debries from the fuel tank were starting to slow the fuel, but I made it and all them things are almost fixed now.

Hi Yobbo,
Well done. I had a similar issue when I re-registered my 28. The young RTA man who not budge on a compliance plate or a VIN number. In the end he spotted the aluminium Holden Motor Body tag nailed on the side of the front seat, pulled the number from that and said that will do, even though he did not know that tag came from a wreck many years ago. No talk of chassis number, but he was happy as it was ther oldest car he had ever registered.
An on the way to and from I was stopping every k or 2 trying to get some adjustment in the brakes.
Nothing like coming home with the plates, what a top feeling.
Enjoy.

Hi Jerry,
Great 28 the Yobbo has completed, and more importantly the steering wheel is on the right side, or should I say the correct side.
Heh heh heh.
Regards to you and Sadie

Ray,
It is obvious to all of us normal people that you Aussies are dyslexic (about your steering wheels). I too think the steering wheel should be on the right... but, only when you are standing outside looking toward the front windshield! As my father used to say, "you're bassackward". Ha, ha.
Still think the world of you guys though, Jerry

Morning Jerry,
dyslexic, how do you spell that. Left and right. Have no problems with that. My left shoe goes on the foot with the big toe on the inside. Gets a bit confusing though when I cross my legs.
Right hand drive, left hand drive, its another thing I blame that Henry F### for.
Cheers

Now I don't know about you but both my feet have a big toe on the inside. So that don't tell me nothin'! If I turn upside down I still have one big toe on the inside. Now am I getting really corn fused? or somebody tryin to mess with me?

Hey Chipper,
Didnt you know that down under we have 2 big toes on each foot, so we can hang on to the ground and not fall off. Have a hell of a job buying sandles though.
Cheers

I always considered residents of OZ were just like other people. Now I learn that some are not is very educational. Do those enlarged digits come from Aboriginal ancestry or is it a recent digitization?

Do those enlarged digits come from Aboriginal ancestry or is it a recent digitization? LOL... nah mate these extra digits came about when all the extra senses were required to take in our abundant nature... Extra toes for; Running the sand through your toes on our great beaches, Feeling the grass on our lush fields, Swimming in our fantastic coral reefs, and Kicking the footy on a great summers day! But of course, you normal toe'd people are welcome to come down and see how it feels on your feet as well.

Gee, if this gathering continues us Aussies are going to need our own section in this little forum!
Ray / Grant, are either of you members of VDC?
Grant, what part of Gippsland are you in? I work for Dahlsens and spend a lot of time between Warragul and Lakes Entrance.
Edit... I just checked your website, you're in Traf! I drove through there twice on the way to and from Traralgon today and will do the same again tomorrow and Monday. Small world 'ey?

Hi Andrew,
I used to be in the VDC back in the 70's and 80's and again a few years ago, but last year joined the DVHCC. Great club, very family friendly. Will try to get Grant involved with the DVHCC down the track, but dont think he likes Car Clubs. You know these brumbies from up the bush.
Always good to hear from an Aussie.
Do you have any photos you can post of your Chev, and you have probably seen Grant's and my blogs.
I am sure Grant will tell you where he lives, but its not far from where you where travelling today.
Cheers
Ray

Andrew,
Which side of the helicopter does the pilot fly from?
Jerry Jerry, great question.... now that will really add to the left hand vs right hand drive debate. The answer is of course that our Huey pilots fly from the RH seat. So why do you folks drive your cars from the left seat?!? I did meet some PICs who flew from the left, but I'm sure that was mission specific and not the norm.
Andrew

We fly from the center modern warbirds, left seat usually or rotary, or right seat, depending upon which door you get in, or if your student beats you to the left seat. we also mount a horse from his left side........ and we have summer in July and winter in January. I suppose that your rotor blades rotate anti-clockwise, and your tail rotor is on the right side too? I haven't figured what keeps you down under folks from falling off the planet! really.... Do your altimeters show positive numbers going up or going down? Ha! flying this one is kinda like driving a 490 roadster! it flys best from the rear seat! It is a hotrod, 85HP!

Hi Ray, I'm sure we'll catch up at some point. I'm pretty new to VDC but I'm pretty sure they have had a few joint runs with DVHCC.
I'll have to do something about taking some photos to post up here... time poor is what I am!
