Talking about ring and pinions here lately it reminded me that 2 years ago I did a bid on Ebay for a ring and pinion for my 48 Fleetmaster but the seller send me a different ring and pinion unit instead.
What I got from him is a NOS unit in the original packing for 35 to39 cars with 42/11 teeth making it a 3,82 ratio. The unit part Nr is 602477.
Here in The Netherlands there are not so many period cars so the box sits in a corner collecting dust.
My question is if this unit has any value due to its lower ratio as the more common 4.11 ratio.

Jianis.

It should have some value. I don't know how much. I suggest you put in in the parts for sale at a low price plus shipping and see what happens. If no action there then put it on ebay or put it in the free stuff here in the proper forum. The deal is that delivery costs for items in free stuff are generally paid by the recipient.

BTW: I don't know if you notified the vendor of the part(s) that he sent you the wrong but if you did then he should have made you whole. That is, send the right parts at his expense or paid you your money back plus shipping both ways. If I were your vendor on that transaction, that's what I would have done. dance

BTW2: If all else fails, consider the fact that you have a lot of water over there. Run a stout line through the ring gear and use it as a boat anchor. Use the pinion as a fish stunner.

BTW3: If you had any hills there, I would advise using it as do folk living over here in Tennessee. They run a stout line through it and throw it out when descending steep mountain sides. Helps prevent the brakes from becoming overheated. Does too! And, it don't hurt none at all like it does when sticking out an unshod foot in order to realize the same result. Sure don't (so I'm told). beermugs Grin.

Charlie

Thank you for the information.
The idea of the question was to see if it had any value.
I should eventually like to replace my 48 Fleetmaster with a 30s coupe so I will keep it for now.
Unfortunately I got it from a private seller on Ebay who tricked me by sending it too late and by the time it arrived it was too late for me to file a complaint. He promised to send me the proper items that I played for but he never did.
I already have an anchor!! (My old 216 engine as advised by a fellow bolter at the Stovebolt forums)
As you probably know Holland is almost flat the higher hill is just 1059 ft but that’s 150 miles south from me so idea I am thinking of building a pendulum clock and use the ring for the pendulum and the pinion as a counterweight should that be a good idea?

I think this would be an NOS part that would be a welcome find by someone. I haven't looked but I assume that there is a parts for sale area on this board. The slowest method of shipping should not be all that bad for someone to pay for.

My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
