I haven't started my 23 for a week. I tried to start her (she doesn't have a name yet) up this evening and it was a no go. Obvious that I wasn't getting fuel and so I took the vacuum tank cap off and confirmed the vacuum tank was bone dry. Put it back together with a new gasket, primed the tank and the car started right up. I idled it for 15 minutes and it was definitely sucking gas. I thought that if working properly the tank would fill with a few cranks. Any ideas or is this usual behavior?
PS. For those following my cooling issues I was pleased the car idled for 15 minutes without overheating.

It is obvious that your vacuum tank is not working. Causes can include, warped top cover. Loose fittings from the manifold to the top of the tank. Loose fittings to the fuel tank. Failure of the valve in the bottom of the inner liner not closing and providing a tight fit. Clogged filter/strainer in the top of the tank at the inlet from the tank.

here is another thought about vacuum tanks I have 3 cars with these and they all work fine. First shut off the fuel when not in use because the carb will let it leak out. Two cranking the engine will not produce vacuum that is why there is a fill plug on top of the vacuum tank to prime it when empty.Al

Dansker,
Here's a couple of names to consider for your '23. I looked at actresses born in 1923 and one male personality that I thought were interesting: Anne (Baxter) 5/7/23; Rhonda (Flemming) 8/10/23; Linda (Darnell) 10/16/23; Bettie (Page) 4/22/23; and the guy, Rocky (Marciano) 10/16/23 the great boxer. You could have a really nice ride and it be named after a famous personality. I liked Bettie Page (interesting lady) and Rocky Marciano (tough competitor).
Best of luck, Jerry

Jerry,
Funny you should respond to my search for a name. As it just so happened my family and I were getting back from a movie tonight (you know the one where the yellow Chevy is really an alien) and I asked them what we should name the old girl. I got no good responses and so your input is welcome.
I guess it could be a guy name as well. How about Cal for Calviin Coolidge who I think was president at the time the car was built. I'll take your recommendations under advisement. I have a pool of oil under the car after running it for 15 minutes the other day. Haven't had the heart or time to look to see what happened yet. What I find out could influence what I name the poor old thing.

My wife refers to our "28" as "Audrey" which is the name of the man eating plant in the movie "Little Shop of Horrors"

You may have to choose a name like Flo! On the other hand, I hope you find where the oil is coming from and she becomes Flowless.
Best, Jerry
