Hello,

Was wandering if someone could inform me more about my car based on the numbers that I have? It is a 1930 coach.

Model: Universal
Car Number: 21AD 6985

Job: 30551
Body: J2590

Was hoping to find out what color it was and so forth.

Thanks

Kevin,
Is there any paint code numbers on the cowl tags?
Here is a link to 1930 paint colors.

30551: 1930 Chevrolet Coach

J 2590: 2,590th 1930 Chevrolet Coach built in the Janesville, Wisconsin factory.

21AD 6985: 21 = Janesville, Wisconsin. AD = Series designation for 1930. 6985 = 5,985th car of the run in the Janesville factory in 1930. Note that the car serial numbers started at 1,001.

On the body color, originally there was a number stamped on the driver's side wood main sill. That number designated the color combination used on the body.

Paint code numbers did not appear on the cowl tags in 1930. The code number was stamped on the driver's side wood main sill instead.

If you open the driver's side door and lift up the mats/carpet, you should find it right along the bottom sill (the longitudinal structural wood piece), stamped in the wood just inboard from the metal.

Hope that helps.

All the Best, Chip

Well, I guess I won't know the color info. beings that piece of wood has some ware and I see no numbers. It is a darker green with black fenders now. What colors could of it been?

The 1930 coach models came in three different color combinations: Classic Blue with a black upper body, Storm King Gray with a Timberline Gray upper body, and Chicle Drab with an Autumn Drab upper body. All of the above would have black fenders.

The original paint on my '31 Coach was revealed/confirmed when I took the stainless cowl band off. The Dark blue original paint was in perfect condition, even though the car was over-painted red. So if you want to know for sure, this is a relatively easy way, assuming it was not removed for painting. There are usually other parts of the car which escape subsequent paint jobs so a little detective work may find the proper body color. Good luck.

The 1930 coach model doesn't have a cowl band.
