Gidday fellas,

Like i said the time has come, my "resto" shed was completed the other day at home so "Monty" was brought back home, parked up, and on Sunday afternoon I started to dismantle slowly, learning as I go...

Hey Grant,

Your back to 1958, only 30 more years to go, and Monty will be seen driving out of the local Chev Dealer at ??????

Well done.

Great looking website, Grant! Enjoyed reading and the pix also. The history info is terrific! I'll be happy to tip a scotch to your dad later today. Mine too. My dad would have been 96 just a few days ago. But he only made it to 92, passed in 2007.

Keep up the great work on MONTY!!!

Bill.

Hey Guys,

Looks like Monty has started the dance of the 7 veils.

And who is the happy man, proud as punch by his side.

Well done Monty, you take care of your owner, look after him, he is new to this affliction.

Go Monty

HI Grant ,It is looking good!!. How long did you take to do the chassis like that?
Is the rust buster a paste or a Liquid? Where do you buy the rust buster from.?
Thanks.

Gidday Jack

Off and on about a 2 weeks, few hours here, few hours there but not that long really.
Rustbuster is a thin clear liquid that you just brush on and then leave it do it's thing over night and is available from Bunnings - 4 litre - $66.00, but before I put it on I constantly went over the chassis with my small 100mm angle grinder with the "heavy duty knot steel wire wheel" attachment and so far I have gone through 5 of them also available from any good hardware store also a big face mask is a must as the small wire bits fly off all over the place as the wheel as it breaks down with use and also they stick into your clothes (overalls).

Once again Ray (1928isgreat) got me onto this procedure so I have him to thank, thanks again Ray!!

Hi Grant,

Maybe I should resign as 3077 Sales Manager and get a job at Rust Buster.

Looking good Monty.

I was lucky enough to get the use of my cousins forklift, made the job heaps easier...

Well done,

That's another job under your belt

Fit the tank, run a new fuel line, install a temp support for the vac tank, and I reckon we could start the bugger soon.

Cheers

Ray

Hi Grant,

Had a great time today, lots of fun.

Must check my insurance to see if it covers being thrown off the plank of an 82 year old car chassis.

But hell, the thing stops, it actually stops.

To all our American friends, Aussies have a long tradition of keeping things going tied up with wire and bits of timber etc.

And today was no exception, wind in my hair, hair slapping my eyes, and the sweet smell (cough, cough) of burning oil and WD40 from the exhaust manifold.

Not a bad days work for a country bumpkin and a kid from the city.

Cheers

Ray

And just think it gets better from here. Sorta like having a Christmas after each new improvement. Gives incentive to keep things going.

A mate of mine lived in a small counrty town down in the Snowy Mountains and did about 180 miles road testing his 28 rolling chassis. Tied a fruit box onto a piece or 4 x 2 (sorry US talk is 2 x 4) Great stuff
