Try using the 'Search' function. If you cannot find what you are looking for, one of the experts will weigh in. I would recommend that you pick up a shop manual for your car. It has a lot of information on how to adjust and repair the vacuum shift. Good luck.

The vacuum shift mechanism is located at the left aft side of the transmission. The repair unit is usually the boot and a new piston.

Its not currently working, it may be owing to a stuck piston or no vacuum going to the unit. They are not hard to take off. If there is vacuum and still not working, I would take it off and free the piston and run a vacuum hose to it, making any adjustments (as best you can) with it removed and before reinstalling (it).

Chevies of the Forties and Filling Station sell a small tool for adjusting the linkage in it. The tool, about the size of a quarter or 50 cent piece will let you know how far to screw the piston adjustment in or out. dance

Good luck with it. When working as designed to, they are a nice feature.
