If I am not mistaken, my 1950 Styleline Deluxe with a 235 and Powerglide transmission is suppose to use Type A transmission fluid. Where do I find such or what can I use as a suitable substitute?

Pretty sure Type A is obsolete. Although, Warren shows it as one of their products: http://www.warrenoil.com/product_warren_trans.html

I asked the transmission shop near me about it after they rebuilt my '54 Powerglide, and they recommended just regular Dexron III.

Yes. The old days of type A and type F are long gone..."obsolete."

For instance, NAPA sells AT fluid simply labelled "ATF." Replaces both Dexron 3 and Mercon. I use it in my '54 PG. That's the only AT I have that leaks/burps a bit.

Apparently chemists have figured out how to make "one-size-fits-all" AT fluid.
