Had to replace the oil distributor valve in my oil distributor assembly, the original one was toast. I removed the oil pump, cleaned it and replaced the valve in the distributor assembly, I was woundering when I go to start the motor do I need to prime the oil pump or is it a self priming unit? Do I need to pack some assembly lube in the pump to get things primed? or is there another procedure to do this right?

Remove the distributor and fabricate a rod to be placed in a drill with a flat (screwdriver) end. Use the drill to operate the pump until you see oil moving or watch the oil pressure gage for activity. When you have run for several minutes remove and install the distributor. You should not have to perform this action again until you you have opened a line somewhere.
