Referring to a 48 Fleetmaster.
I have a one wire 6V positive ground alternator that I consider using temporarily if my generator or voltage regulator fails.
So far I know that the voltage regulator has to be bypassed then the ammeter, coil and battery terminals have to be switched around.
Is there something more that has to be done?

If you have to use an alternator, go with a 6 volt negative ground alternator. Don't switch to positive ground.

You might check with an electrical rebuilder and see what is involved with making your (-) alternator a (+) alternator.

You are right I better go with the right negative ground alternator saves all the trouble.

Chipper

That is a very interesting price (on Ebay). Normally they are listed for double or more. Also he is shipping with the normal post without the extra charges for packing, administration and triple expensive parcel companies.
I will try to sell my positive ground alternator and then order a new one.

Alternator conversion is a very good system. You'll have a hard time going back to the old generator and cut-out system. I can attest to every thing that individual said in that Ebay add.

If you have a good re builder they can change the diode wiring to negative ground, also most re builders can convert 12v to 6v GM alternator.AL

I have an address in the USA that they can provide a complete kit for converting the 12 volt 10SI Delco Remy alternator to 6v for a reasonable price.I might order it and do the conversion myself.
