I recently pulled the 3speed transmission in my 52 sedan to re-seal it, put it all back together, no more leaks from the tranny but now I have a leak at the torque tube sleeve that pulls back. I didn't think to check this. When the torque tube is dropped will the sleeve slide right off? If so, is there an easily replaceable seal in there? Any part numbers etc. would be greatly appreciated. I see on Autozone's website they carry several press in seals for this transmission but they don't show which goes where.

It will pull right off. Just work it back and forth.

There is a seal. You adjust the seal for wear by tightening up on the seal nut (on the aft part of the housing. You might try this first.

Suppliers like Chevies of the Forties and the Filling Station probably have the seal. Last time I had mine apart, I went to the Caterpiller Dealer and got a big "O" ring of just the right size. It seems to be working great. No leaks, ... well, none there, at least.
Good luck,

National Chevy has a universal joint gasket set which includes the collar seal. Pt#1363 $17.00 plus shipping. (www.49-54nca.com).

Chevs of the Forties has the same kit called a ball seal kit.
PT#3723490 $13.75 plus shipping.

Make sure when you install the collar, you tighten it snug. Then back off the collar until you can rotate the ball assembly.

Good luck.
