While trying to salvage a very rusty master cylinder,(casting #5450256) I find 2 holes at the bottom of the reservoir. The larger hole is drilled through to the piston while the smaller hole seems only partially drilled. Does anybody know anything about this partial hole and is it what is mentioned in the parts book as (doesn't have 11/32 hole thru cyl. wall. I plan to have this cylinder sleeved and want to know what to tell them to drill and what to leave plugged.

They are both drilled thru. The one that looks as if it isn't drilled has a smaller hole below the large hole. Its rusted shut.

Hi hddennis,

Smart move, now go ahead and complete the job correctly by sending in all 4 wheel cylinders at the same time. (Some shops give a discount if you do all 5 items at one time).

While you are waiting for the master cylinder and 4 wheel cylinders to come back, go ahead and order the kits for all 5 items so you will be ready when they are returned. Don't forget to blow out all the lines with air pressure and then flush with new brake fluid. You may as well also pick up a gallon of DOT-3 brake fluid while you're in town.

When you are ready to do the bleeding, invite one of your good Chevy buddies over so he can help.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Try as I might I can't get anything through the second hole, must be just a pinhole as my smallest drill bit, 1/16th acts like it hit solid steel. Should I just let the resleever deal wih it? Will they blast the cylinder inside and out or should I get that done first? Thanks again for the help, H. D. Dennis

Just wash it off so it doesn't have brake fluid running all over the place. Put in a plastic bag for shipping. Give the machinist the year and he will do the rest.

Most resleevers know where the holes are supposed to be and what size. As someone else said earlier do wheel cylinders as well but request stainless sleeves in all. Here in aus they also supply the rubber components and if you send the pistons as well reassemble ready to bolt back on, I dont know about the US resleevers.
