My brother and I are old car nuts. His with his Fords, and me with my Chevy's. When we restore our leaf springs, we use a Graphite paint coating applied to the inside curve of each leaf spring. This gives us a squeek free, oil free spring assembly that will last our lifetime.
Restoration steps.
1. completely disassemble the leaf spring pack
2. Sand/Bead blast every surface of every spring.
3. Bevel the inside edge of each spring to remove the sharp edge that basically gouged the surface of the spring below it.
3. Gring smooth the surface of the spring that the upper spring wore in.
4. Sand the spring leaves.
5. Metal etch and prime.
6. Use a Graphite paint coating on the inside surface of each sping that come in contact with another spring surface.
7. Let Dry
8. Paint the upper surfaces with Gloss black paint all of the other surfaces of each spring. Let dry for a few days.
Do not paint the graphite coating.
9.Assemble the spring pack and touch up any marks.
You now have a perfectly permanently dry lubricated leaf spring for your show car. The beveled edge on the inside edge of each leaf prevents damage and allows each leaf to slide without scraping into the metal of the leaf below it.
When I disassembled an original spring, there was evidence of graphite grease used at one time. This new graphite coating is a better solution to an old technology that will last longer.
The best part is that your springs will last longer and there is no need to oil them.

Too bad you are not a member of the VCCA. The spring instructions would make a superior article for publication in the G&D (club magazine). Have you considered becoming a member? I strongly recommend it as the perks are well worth the price of admission.
