gas prices aren' politics nor even economics, just survival........how about a little song? "Well, the one on the right was on the left And the one in the middle was on the right And the one on the left was in the middle And the guy in the rear was a Methodist" ..now that is politics and religion all in one verse.....

gas prices aren' politics nor even economics, just survival If it was only about gas prices you would be correct. The easy part is complaining, the difficult part is getting involved and making a difference.

The oil-man that is, once us old codgers got too old to work, the younguns let the whole she-bang go to heck in a hand car! ....Just kidding!.....We will wait and see....There are some good things comeing off the drawing boards and the tecknology is awesome!...Talk some more to our Maker up there in the big dog-house in the sky,....put the cell phones down for a while, turn up the music, put on a pair of Boss Wallopers, and pick up a Stillson wrench and a big hammer,....then just keep the politikshuns out of our hair, and our pocket books!

I know you was just being sarcastic, Mr. Mack, But that is SO true in reality in so many places. Not just imagination. Parts stores for instance....

Problem with the younger generation is that they live in a "virtual" world of touch screens and avatars where all and any outcome is decided on your skill level in a "red vs blue match" and they fail to or refuse to see things as they REALLY are. We as parents (Baby Boomer's) have totally sheltered them from reality by giving them so much of this technology thus lay the seeds for indoctrination.
Social networking is their "anti establishment" badge but as they slowly enter the "working world" they quickly find out (as we did) the true way of the world.$$
They are by no means stupid, just inexperienced!

Had a dream the other night... There I was eightteen and I just picked up a bunch of pop bottles to sell and go on a date with Cindy Lou. Got my old 38 chevy shined up. went to the gas station and a the attendant rushed out and said "Fill her up?" Yes I said and please check the oil! After He was finished he said "that will be $1.25". Gas was $0.17 cents a gallon back then. Well! It jarred me awake and I said what happened to them good old days? Now I paid $40.00 to fill up the SUV and tears run down my face wishing for the times when gas was cheap! WHAT HAPPENED? WHY? and I see it all now... GREED! What else could it be?

Now you got me started again! The greed and stupidity isn't limited to just this country, Permex (Mexico's Gov. owned oil comp and 6th largest oil producer) has and will continue their decline in production due to political reasons. So why would a Gov. limit an economic power house of wealth (so desperately needed by it's people) and alloy it to go to waste in such a dire economy? Instead of dope we could importing their oil or at least helping with the technology needed to expand their resources.> http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/apr2008/db20080427_752673.htm

This discussion is trending toward political. The simple answer to your question is inflation! The result of increased cost do to the cost of labor. That greed is each of us trying to improve our economic condition.

I would like to remind all of you oil guys about our friend who lives in Germany and posts regularly on this forum...He said gas in Germany, and most all of Europe, costs $9.00 a gal.
That is why I wonder if all these "Drill Baby Drill" folks realize that almost All the oil drilled in the U.S. is exported to foreign countries, were it brings a better price that leads to higher profits for the oil Barron's.
BTW...Remember the U.S. Gov back in the 1930's broke up the Standard Oil monopoly for the same crap that is happening now. Now they just meet in the back room. Why do all of the gas stations raise their prices at the same time???...coincidence???....I doubt it......ED

I would be interested in your source for the statement: "almost ALL of the oil drilled in the US is exported to foreign countries." You write that this is because of greed. As they say: "cite your source."
According to the Department of Energy (my source for much of the following information) we are the third largest producer of oil in the world. Our exports are mainly to Canada, but also to Mexico, and Europe where the crude is refined into various products, including various blends of gasoline, and much of it is then imported back into the US. We also are exporting to Asia (which helps us pay the interest on the debt we owe China and Japan.)
This is not done for "greed." They would make more money if they could refine the oil here.
Oil companies must export crude oil because our domestic producers have been limited by the government and environmentalists in building new plants to refine oil into gas these last 20-30 years. The governments (federal and state) also mandate so-called summer blends which adds about a $1 a gallon because our refineries must be shut down and retooled to produce new blends twice a year. Even considering this our imports about equal our exports of oil products.
The reason for the high prices in gasoline in Europe vs the USA is taxes. The European nations have socialist governments with socialized medicine, and these higher taxes are used to help support their socialism.
As it is you are playing about 19 cents per gallon in direct Federal taxes for each gallon; and 30 to 60 cents in direct taxes to the states. The oil companies get from 3-7 cents of net profit from each gallon of gasoline.
The people making the most money off of gasoline are the governments, not the oil companies.
According to Bloomberg Finance Exxon-Mobil makes 50% less in Return on Investment than does Apple or Microsoft and I don't see anyone calling tech companies "robber barons."
Oil is a commodity and as such each barrel trades at the same price. According to the Department of Energy 73% of the cost of a gallon of gasoline is crude oil, when the price of crude goes up, the price of gasoline goes up, thus the relative same price of gasoline in a particular market. Also, competition comes into play. If the gas at one station is $3.50 a gallon and across the street it is $3.95, which station would you pick?
Pure opinion: We should be thankful for our oil producers. For 30 years we have been overtaxing, over regulating, and generally trying to drive them out of this country; and while they have been forced by our government's policies to move more operations overseas, they still continue to provide us with a cheap and reliable source of energy compared to the alternatives. I believe a gallon of gasoline is still about that of a gallon of milk. Are the cows also "robber barons.?"
David

Dr David...Well said and probably fact filled....If all said is so...I guess my next question is...Why are the big 3 oil companies now showing the largest profits (In Billions) than any corporation in the history of America?????...ED
BTW....You would not be a stock holder..would you? (I wish I was)
