When I removed the water pump on my '36 chevy I noticed that there was no brass plate behind the impeller. According to Jerry at the Filling Station the '35s had the plate but it was discontinued in 1936. There seems to be a recess for it in the block. Is Jerry correct that no plate is needed?

The 1929-41 Master Parts Manual lists a Baffle Plate for the 1935-36 water pump. Part #837611:

However, (just to add to the confusion) the 1929-54 Master Parts Manual does NOT list a Baffle Plate for the 1936 water pump, part #837611 is listed for only the 1935:

The Filling Station does carry a baffle plate for the 1935 water pump (AF-254).

So, the question still remains then, do you or don't you need a baffle plate?

??????????

Thanks guys, I will try it without the baffle. It does cost 20 bucks plus shipping and I am anxious to get it back together.
