Folks:

I am considering a 1932 Standard Coach. As part of my due diligence I need to decode the cowl tag. Can someone help me decode these numbers:

Job No: 32551
Body No: K1953
Trim No: 1 (6)
Paint No: 3 (1)

Thanks much,

Job Number 32551: 1932 Chevrolet Coach

Body Number K 1953: Built in the Kansas City factory. 1,953rd Coach built in that factory in 1932.

Trim 16: Gray Mohair with pattern (interior)

Paint 31: The paint numbers for 1932 started at number 89 and run to number 125. You might want to recheck the paint number that is stamped on the cowl tag to confirm.

Dog,

Where do you find the information to decode? My '34 Standard Coupe has the following on the cowl tag:

Style: 34-607
Body: S 1614
Trim: 42
Paint 166 (and then there looks like a D)

I would appreciate a decode or where I can find the info. Thanks!

I have the above information for 1929-32 in my literature collection.

34607 indicates that you have a 1934 Standard Coupe.

S-1614 means that your car was built in St. Louis and it was the 1,614th Standard Coupe built in that factory in 1934.

I don't have anything on Trim 42.

Paint #166 is Black with Black wire wheels. Cream Medium or Aurora Red wire wheels were also available. The striping was Gold Bronze.

Thanks for the info. The car hasn't traveled too far from where is was born. Until 2 years ago it was always in Columbia, MO about 100 miles from St. Louis and now is in Lee's Summit, MO about 240 miles away.
If the trim number refers to the interior, 42 must mean gold-tan mohair as I still have the original door panels. From old pictures I thought the original wheels were the cream color instead of black. Oh well, I probably would still have gone with the cream color even if I had known.
Thanks again.

Paint number 89 is Black with either Ocean Green or Black wire wheels. The striping colors are Ocean Green and Gold Bronze.
