Is there an expansion plug to seal the rear bearing of the camshaft on a 1929 engine? If so what determines its depth placement in the block and should it be steel or brass?

A plug is required there. I drive it all the way in to the cam end. The material is not important. I do use a sealer all around the edge. A cup type plug is the best solution.

I have used a .030" spacer behind the plug before expanding it in place, just to leave a little room for the camshaft to float. Then I took the camshaft back out once the sealer had set, removed the spacer, and reinstalled the camshaft. Probably not ncecessary, but it makes me feel better! hood

The float is determined by the camshaft retainer. Your system is a good one. The objective is to stop the small amount of oil that could escape behind the rear cam bearing.
